Stage 4 is the longest and toughest stage of the event with around 930m of climbing in 71km. It will see riders leave the disused Marakele Caravan Park, and almost immediately start ascending Bakker's pass. The short stint to Bakker's pass can be extermely sandy, with Bakker's pass itself often severely eroded. Once over Bakker's, riders will continue over several undulations to eventually climb to the higest point of the race on Jan Trichardt pass. Descending Jan Trichardt, riders will find waterpoint 2 at the old Donkerhoek Geloftefees terrein. Leaving Donkerhoek, riders will travel past Rankin's pass, and eventually descent to the end of the stage at Alma Primary School.
Bakker's pass will be reached at around the 150km mark (just after CP3). The pass rises around 400m vertically, in just under 5km.
Note that due to the road conditions, no support/spectator vehicles will be allowed on this stage.
